I have read about 20 pages of Fahrenheit 451, and the main conflict within the story has not yet been revealed. Although, the main character, Guy Montag, is introduced as a “fireman
” who starts fires instead of putting them out. His crew burns books for a reason not revealed and is simply done what they are told. The cities and towns in this world seem to be barren and empty despite people being said towns. This creates an eerie and lonely mood with the help of a secretive tone used by the narrator when describing the setting. I think that the current mood and setting is going to drastically change due to the influence of Clarisse McClellan on Guy.

So far, I think that the book is somewhat epic, as it is still in its exposition stage, providing the general information and background that is needed to fully understand the context and meaning behind the story. Although, I enjoy the way the Ray Bradbury is able to create a sense of discomfort and uneasiness through his description of the current setting.

How epic is F451 so far?
